Special Tribute
I never had the chance to personally meet Ms. Shery. Her reputation met me in my quest to figure out how to address my health naturally and the way I wanted to change my consumption of food. I was early in my healing journey and I could not manage reaching out to her, then by the time we met, through the Wyandotte Community for Holistic Cancer Health and Wellbeing group, she was in her own healing process. I was infatuated with her before ever meeting her because no one I knew had an understanding of what I was trying to attempt. And I was encouraged that I wasn't "crazy" for thinking that I could or believing in ways outside of pharmaceuticals for healing, especially as it relates to cancer. I'd like to remember her as a "pioneer" "forerunner" on behalf of ICan.Sir! She, her efforts, and now her legacy (at least for me) is an inspiration that encouraged me to keep going. We should not have to die from trying to live because systems and ideologies are not set up to support us.

Every time I saw Broderick after my diagnosis we would get lost in conversation about the process of the medical system, the nuances between the data of African American and caucasian women related to breast cancer, and the differences in services or information provided from one county medical system to the next. Looking back I reminded myself of the woman in Luke 18:1-8. She was persistent about the justice that was due to her. She kept speaking on her behalf until the judge decided to respond in her favor. Broderick wasn’t a judge in any sense but his intentionality, sincerity, and integrity possibly guided his deliberate way of introducing me to a wealth of workgroups at KU Medical Center who were addressing most of the issues we talked about. I’m proud to have been his Junior High classmate, sister in Christ, and ultimate colleague. https://klcjournal.com/replacing-the-work-of-the-irreplaceable-broderick-crawford-in-kck/
